Electronic Music Guide

This section was going to be much harder to put together than I thought because there are so many genres and sub-genres. But then I came across Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music and voila! Although it doesn't seem to work with the Safari browser. There was no way that I was going to be as thorough as this guy. He's a little sarcastic and funny in his descriptions, but the musical excerpts that he gives are pretty much dead on. You will need Flash, however. The site is truly amazing!! Check it out and you will see what I mean by the sub-genres.

Another site I came across is The Electronica Primer. The site is not as entertaining as Ishkur's, but there is a lot of useful information.

These sites should keep you busy for a while so all I'm going to do here is create a quick reference of the biggies and provide links to the appropriate live365 stream for further listening. I will also provide a very short audio sample of the genre that is meant to serve only as a quick glance. All of these genres are constantly evolving with new artists and new styles so please don't be offended by my short audio summations. They are only meant as a starting point for further listening.

I am not even going to attempt to describe each genre since mere words are often not enough when describing music. Just Listen!! These genres have literally hundreds of internet stations dedicated to them. The live365 streams start with a 15 second commercial before the music kicks in. A little annoying if you are browsing.

What the....??? This appears to be a marketing term penned for electronic dance music that is a cut above the average dance floor fodder. As in it strives to be more cerebral! However, the term is so vague and encompasses so many of the genres listed above that it is pretty meaningless to me. But here are a few references from the web.
Ahpex Twin -- "On"
Mouse on Mars-- "JuJu" Mouse On Mars - Autoditacker
Autechre -- "Bike" Autechre - Incunabula
